Senior Copywriter

Job description

Salary: £30k

Location: Leigh-on-sea, Essex

Please note: this is NOT a remote working or flexible position. You will be expected to be in the office full-time. Please do not apply if this isn’t what you’re looking for.

Who are we?

Storm is a forward-thinking, fast-paced and full-service agency. We are ranked by the Drum as the No. 1 agency in Essex and East Anglia. We are a full-on, switched on, always on kind-of-agency. You’ve got to be sharp, think on your feet and really know your stuff to make it through the door.

Who are you?
We’re looking for a super-savvy Senior Copywriter to join our in-house content team. You will be responsible for delivering quality output for our clients, tackling (often complex) content briefs from high-profile brands and businesses across numerous industries.

This is a pivotal role within the agency and we’re looking for someone who can turn their hand to pretty much any writing style. You must be versatile so you’ll be as good at crafting feeder text and subject lines as you are at writing long-form content for websites and press releases for publications. A confident and enthusiastic self-starter, committed and eager to work in a dynamic agency environment - to create, achieve and grow with us. To share our vision for Storm.

You’re likely to have been doing this for a few years and be well versed in the techniques, tips, tricks and best practices for various applications. As well as bringing new ideas to the table, you won’t be opposed to receiving feedback or constructive criticism to help improve content production and processes - always striving for greatness with the client in mind.

Requirements

What will your day-to-day look like?

  • You’ll be expected to create long-form and short-form content, becoming totally immersed within our clients’ monthly content retainers; researching topics and writing pillar pieces and clusters as well as helping to formulate ideas around accompanying blog visuals and social assets.
  • You’ll work alongside the digital department to produce SEO-driven content understanding search intent, technical structure and hierarchy (whilst still considering client nuances at all times).
  • You’ll be heavily involved in client meetings and brainstorming sessions to take new project briefs directly and you’ll regularly interview clients to gain insight, understanding and knowledge of their services and requirements.
  • You’ll attend client workshops and note-take/record the meetings to either write these up as playback documents or use them as reference points when producing specific content pieces.
  • The days will be varied so you’ll adapt writing style, structure and tone of voice to create content across different formats and mediums for different purposes and to different audiences; everything from thought leadership articles to opinion pieces, sales pieces and case studies...through to brand and campaign promotions, video scripts and storyboards.
  • You’ll constantly look for new opportunities to deliver content - not just copy! Trends, news, topics, resources… find them, read them, use them! You’re a thought leader so we encourage you to share with the wider team.

Must-haves

  • Demonstrable copywriting experience (B2B/B2C). A portfolio ideally upon application.
  • A genuine interest in business and marketing.
  • Big ambition with a hunger to learn, grow, progress, collaborate and develop your skills even further.
  • Excellent communication skills - we need someone that can comfortably and confidently talk to our clients and liaise with the rest of the team and other departments within Storm to really get stuff done.
  • The ability to note-take to a comprehensive standard.
  • The know-how when it comes to your own time keeping and management, working well under pressure, both within a team and in isolation.
  • Creativity in your bones; the role will be diverse and challenging and we’re after someone who can dig deep to find that interesting insight, story or angle in any subject.
  • Accuracy - you must be meticulous when it comes to implementing, proofing and correcting grammar, spelling and punctuation (a given). Attention to detail is paramount.

Nice-to-haves

  • A degree or accreditations gained within a related field (Journalism, English, Business or similar)
  • Familiar with writing SEO/optimised content
  • Marketing or agency experience
  • A keen eye for design and aesthetics

Benefits

  • You’ll be joining an award-winning agency – #1 in Essex
  • Allocated budget for training, conferences, workshops, mentoring
  • The opportunity to work with a prestigious client base
  • ‘Years of service’ bonus and profit share scheme
  • ‘Years of service’ gifted holiday scheme
  • Transparent and accelerated career progression
  • Office closure over Christmas with additional gifted holiday
  • Regular social events throughout the year. Leigh-on-Sea is a great place to work and socialise; a seaside town with a buzzing broadway full of bars, shops, restaurants etc.
  • ‘Free bar Fridays’ from 4pm

Please note: we will be unable to consider you for this role if you do not provide a covering letter, examples of your work, your CV and locality information (as stated, this is an in-agency role).
